Turkish TV dramas plays growing role in boosting ties with Bangladesh

(MENAFN) Turkish television dramas have increasingly played a role in deepening cultural, diplomatic, and economic connections with Bangladesh over the past decade, according to Bangladesh’s ambassador to Ankara.

The ambassador explained that the series have fostered strong emotional and cultural links.

"Turkish television dramas have become an important bond between Bangladesh and Türkiye over the past decade," he said. "These series strengthen emotional ties, cultural interest and mutual respect."

Bangladeshi viewers relate closely to themes such as family bonds, faith, honor, justice, and sacrifice, which reflect shared social and cultural values. Popular Turkish productions in Bangladesh include Kara Sevda, Muhtesem Yüzyil (known locally as Sultan Suleiman), and Kurulus Osman, particularly among younger audiences. Broadcasters like Deepto TV have helped expand the reach by airing Bengali-dubbed versions of these series.

The impact of Turkish dramas goes beyond television. Turkish cuisine, fashion, and language have gained popularity in Bangladesh, while interest in visiting Türkiye has grown. The ambassador noted, “Turkish dramas have clearly contributed to the spread of Turkish restaurants, clothing and a strong attraction to visit Türkiye.”

This growing cultural familiarity has also supported closer political, diplomatic, and trade relations. Bangladesh has proposed opening a Yunus Emre Institute branch in response to public interest in Turkish culture. The dramas portray Türkiye as a nation with a rich Islamic heritage, strong governance, and modern capabilities, boosting its soft power in Bangladesh and encouraging stronger people-to-people ties between the two countries.
