India Summons Bangladeshi Envoy

(MENAFN) India has called in Bangladesh’s ambassador amid worsening diplomatic friction between the two neighboring states.

This move follows Dhaka’s similar step last week, after claims that former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was permitted to make “incendiary” remarks from Indian territory.

“The Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, H.E. Mr Riaz Hamidullah, was today (December 17, 2025) summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs and apprised of India’s strong concerns at the deteriorating security environment in Bangladesh,” India’s Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday.

Officials highlighted “the activities of some extremist elements who have announced plans to create a security situation around the Indian Mission in Dhaka,” stressing that New Delhi expects Dhaka to guarantee the protection of Indian diplomatic facilities and personnel in Bangladesh.

Relations were further strained after a Bangladeshi political figure suggested offering refuge to groups hostile to India. In response, New Delhi reiterated that its territory has never been used for actions harmful to Bangladesh.
