Bangladeshi Taka Gains Major Ground Against U.S. Dollar
Data from the Bangladesh Bank (BB) reveals that the dollar has weakened against the taka consistently over the past 10 days.
According to the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), most banks on Sunday were exchanging U.S. dollars at rates between 120.30 and 121.20 taka—marking a clear decline from the 122.80 to 122.90 taka range observed at the beginning of last week.
Remittance inflows surged to an unprecedented level in the 2024-25 fiscal year, surpassing $30 billion between July 2024 and June 2025.
At the same time, Bangladesh's export earnings climbed by 8.58 percent, reaching $48.28 billion during the same fiscal period—further reinforcing the strength of the local currency.
A senior official from the Bangladesh Bank stated that even after the BB implemented market-based exchange rates, the U.S. dollar has kept declining while the Bangladeshi taka has continued to appreciate.
